Adam and Eve is a good illustration for the marriage arrangement, but it may not necessarily illustrate that every marriage after Adam and Eve should have the same arrangement; so let’s take a closer look at the scriptures. After God created man (alone and without a companion), God said “I will make him a helper comparable to him” (Genesis 2:18). Or, as the KJV says, “a help meet for him.” The Hebrew word used here, neged, is defined as: “a front, that is, part opposite; specifically a counterpart.” And thus, the LORD made man’s counterpart, who was female, and not another male, for that is the same and not “opposite.” This is the helper and companion God created for Adam. Following this, God command this same relationship of a male with his female counterpart to all marriages that would come: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). Jesus also addresses this in Matthew 19:4-5, “And He answered and said to them, Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’?” Did we all notice what Jesus said? He stated the “reason” for marriage is because God made them male and female in the beginning. Two men cannot be married under God’s institution of marriage. According to the Lord, the only basis for marriage is on the grounds that a couple must be male and female. All other relationships where sexuality is involved are sinful. Therefore, if one is struggling with the temptation for sexual immorality, including homosexuality, then look for a mate, not a sinful mate, but an appropriate one: 1 Corinthians 7:2, “Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband.”
