How could God forgive me after all the sins that I have done?

God answers this question for us in Isaiah 55:7-9. God begins by calling all sinners to walk away from sin and come to him for forgiveness. It doesn’t matter what the sin or how many times it has been committed, God said that “He will abundantly pardon” (vs.7). I know that God was very strict in the Old Testament, but today, with the grace of Jesus, isn’t God much less severe?

This thought may enter into most minds, but is it a biblical concept, or are we missing something? Hebrews 2:1-3 certainly suggests that we have definitely missed something. It reads: “Therefore we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. Can I simply be saved by being a good person?

If God is going to save a person because he has lived a morally good life, then the plan of salvation is no longer valid and there is therefore no more need for God’s grace. If this idea is true, then our salvation is based on works, not grace. This way of thinking demands that God will look at our life and base His decision of our salvation on whether we have been more good than bad. Why then did Jesus die on the cross?
