There Is Danger In Waiting Part One

We sometimes get a little too comfortable in waiting to do or take care of something. This is an area that I struggle with regarding my “honey-do” lists and what not. However, there is danger in allowing this trait to fester and grow into something bigger than you can control in other areas of our lives.

Think about putting gas into your car. There are some who try to get as close to empty as possible before having to put gas in their vehicles. Then there are some who fill up their gas tanks as soon as it hits ½ of a tank. It can be as simple as putting gas in your car. You never know when something may come up. If you are someone who constantly waits until your vehicle is almost on empty, what happens if you get caught in an unexpected traffic jam on your way to the gas station? There is a real chance that you may run out of gas because of this unexpected event.

I don’t want us to equate everything to running out of gas but consider the premise that we have no idea when Jesus will return. There is not a single soul here on this earth that knows when Jesus will return, and we need to be fully prepared for his return. How can we do that if we are constantly putting off obeying the gospel? How are we prepared for his return when we continue to live in the flesh (in sin)?

James 1:15 Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.

Considering sin and temptation with what we are talking about here – First, it’s a desire, you’re just thinking about it. Then you begin to do it. That sin ultimately will kill everything that really matters, because it brings forth death. How often do we hear people say something along the lines of “I know what my limit is….I know when to quit.” Yet, that is said to simply get you off their back. People will wait until the last possible second or even when it is entirely too late before finding themselves in trouble. The longer you wait to deal with that sinful compromise; that dark corner in your life, the more it’s going to cost you. We need to recognize the reality that we all will stand before the judgment seat of Christ. Consider where you stand in eternity.
